Sophia Karagiorgou

Head of the Artificial Intelligence & Distributed Machine Learning Unit

Advanced intrusion detection and cyber risk assessment methods for mitigating attacks in distributed edge-to-cloud computing systems

Dr. Sophia Karagiorgou is the Head of the Artificial Intelligence & Distributed Machine Learning Unit in UBITECH and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telematics of the Harokopio University of Athens (teaching AI, Semantic Web, Advanced AI and Deep Learning). She holds a PhD in spatiotemporal data management from the National Technical University of Athens (2014).

Her research interests involve algorithms for big data management, scalable and distributed data analytics. Her research experience along with her participation (i.e. in close collaboration with under-/post-graduate students) in several Data Science and AI competitions (Angry Birds AI Competition @ IJCAI 2016, The AI Games 2017) enables the development of motivational educational activities and methodologies for dissemination in cross-border and cross-domain venues.

She has been involved in research projects and collaborative schemas since 2004 (either as research fellow, or as WP leader / Technical Coordinator, or as EU funded/National Research proposal / projects Editor / Reviewer / Rapporteur). In the EU space, she is currently the Technical Coordinator of the MYRIOPOS (GSRT-04665), TALON (HEU), COALA (H2020) and CYRENE (H2020) EU-funded projects, while also serving as WP leader in several ICT projects. She has authored more than 35 publications, which have been cited more than 1000 times.
